The differential in the amount paid by those who fund their own residential care fees, compared to those supported by the state has been highlighted in the latest care market review.

Average council funded fee - £596 per week

Average self funded fee - £776 per week

With the new care funding support, limited to the council rate for care, this difference amounts to £37,440 over a four year stay, significantly undermining the effectiveness of the proposed £86,000 care cap.
