Benefits Go Unclaimed

Nearly half of home-owning pensioners do not claim state benefits they are entitled to and are missing out on nearly £1,200 per year.

Less than half of eligible retirees are not claiming council tax reductions they are entitled to and Savings Pension Credit is unclaimed by around 55% of those who are eligible.

Stephen Lowe, group communications director at retirement specialist Just Group who undertook the research said, 'Every year we find meaningful income that would make a real difference to people's lives is not being claimed.

There are a range of resources available to support people in claiming their full benefit entitlement and provide additional guidance, including organisations such as Money Advice Service and charities such as Age UK and Citizens Advice.
