Ask our Advisers

"My parents have all their savings in joint accounts from which they pay all their bills including my dad’s home care fees. Is this the right approach?" Service User

Ideally, we would suggest they should have separate accounts so that dad’s care fees are paid out of just his income and savings. If care costs are paid from joint funds, then it may be that mum is subsidising him. This may mean it will take longer for him to be able to claim support from the state. Helpline Adviser
