The total number of nurses in the UK who trained overseas has increased steadily over the past 20 years, from 39,912 in 2002 to 108,702 in 2020. A similar trend is seen for doctors – although available data is from a shorter time period – increasing from 44,050 in 2008 to 61,302 in 2019.
